Choosing any DIY website option to design the website yourself can be a very time consuming exercise but, there are tools and options available to help make the process easier. I strongly suggest looking into WordPress or similar platforms that can make web designing a breeze. In WordPress, you can select from a number of free standard templates that you can easily edit through an administrative area on the back-end of the site. Alternatively, you can also choose to buy from millions of professionally designed websites aimed at a variety of industries from sports and engineering to hobbyists or sales. The options are fairly unlimited.
You may find that the entire WordPress set up is a little hard to swallow at first so, to avoid being initially overwhelmed, I suggest that you take a moment to look up some beginning guides on video network sites such as YouTube. Search for “how to set up a WordPress site” and the results will be exhaustive with thousands of people who provide step-by-step guides, tips, and additional resources to make the process a little less overwhelming.
Remember that your website needs to engage people and keep them interested long enough to see your product and learn about your business. The best way to do this is to start by keeping the website simple. The more colors that you use and a greater variety of text sizes will only deter people from staying long or revisiting your site, thus causing you to lose the visitors’ interest and potential business. Because people are typically visual, the use of images is an excellent attractant. Pastel colors are also pleasant to the eye.
The goal of your website should be to engage people to your site long enough to make them feel as though they need your product or services. Typically, if people are not attracted to your website within the first few seconds, they will leave for another site, often a competitor.
If you are struggling with WordPress, my other recommendation is to look through the standard template websites that are offered and then choose a layout that you like. Remember that these websites are designed to be functional for a number of any given categories so, because of this, try and choose the correct category to meet your needs.
When deciding on a template that you like, you can purchase it and then upload the files to your website hosting account. Once the files are uploaded, you will need to make the necessary adjustments to your settings. With these changes, you should then have a live website that people can see. However, despite the site being live, you are far from being done. At this point, you will need to open all of the individual files that you purchased with the template to edit and personalize the text. You will also need to personalize all of the images for your product or business to ensure that the website reflects your business and/or target market.
