PRODUCT DESIGN PROCESS
We have listed the common steps followed when developing a product with us. These steps will vary depending on what specific services you require to develop your product and doesn't take into account any product sourcing or electronic development.
Product Analysis
The Product Analysis stage consists of several activities that Invention Steps has considered important for this project. This step allows us to fully understand the project specifications and work together with you to determine its individual design and direction.
The Product Analysis stage aims to address all project concerns and considerations at the beginning of the project, and allows the following design and engineering stages to be aligned with an overall manufacturing strategy.
Industrial Design
The Industrial Design stage is introduced to give a visual understanding of the appearance of the final product before we start the product design. Before we start the 3D design it is important to ensure we have a full understanding of your expectations and limitations. Based on your deliverables and brief we will provide you with a number of sketches to choose from.
Only once you are completely satisfied with the direction and appearance of the product can we move on to the next stage. The industrial design phase will determine each and every aspect of the design, how mechanisms work, the look of the product, and how all components work together assembled to produce a functional product meeting all specifications.
Product Design
Based on the visual illustrations provided in the Industrial Design Stage, we can progress with turning the concept sketches into 3D CAD models for manufacture purposes.
Designing every aspect of the product in 3D is key to determining how the product will fit together, tolerances and actual sizes ensuring we have a product ready to manufacture. The purpose of our 3D CAD designs is to ensure we have a product that has been designed to be manufactured with all manufacturing processes have taken into account.
2D CAD Design
A full set of 2D CAD dimensional drawings will be produced for each component, sub assembly and complete assembly within the design.
The 2D CAD drawings will be used to illustrate fine tolerances and any special notes required to produce each part. This ensures accurate manufacturing specifications with no confusion at a later date between yourself and the manufacturing factory. A General Assembly will include a full Bill of Materials (BOM) highlighting materials, weights, surface finish, quantities and screw sizes etc.
Project Handover
On completion of the previous stages we will be in a position to fully handover the project. Ensuring a successful handover, we will prepare a Development Pack consisting of all the 3D designs and manufacturing files and conculde the process with a meeting.
